Amanda Brugel

(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in this part of the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large region that runs from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often referenced, however her brief visit to the West Island wasn't. Brugel grew in Courtice close to Oshawa. Her early ambition was to be a dancer but a growth spurt resulted in her outgrowing her dance partner. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was six feet and one inch tall. When I outgrew my male friends, I quit. A lot of dancers go from dancing into acting. For Brugel, it was her drama instructor who pushed her to go in this direction. One of her teachers suggested she take part in an audition for the annual school play. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the leading lady in Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program which she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. For the past twenty years, her roles in the world of television and on the screen have been varied. The role of Rita from the award winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most notable. Brugel was the character Rita in the Handmaid's Tale, a series that was filming over 10 years ago.
